About Russell
Russell is a unincorporated urban group in the Municipality mb of Russell – Binscarth inside the Canadian region of Manitoba that held town status preceding first January , 2015 when it and the close-by Village of Binscarth amalgamated with the Rural Municipality of Russell. It is situated along PTH 16 and PTH 83, and is at the western end of PTH 45.
Russell is the home of Manitoba's Beef and Barley Festival, which is held yearly in October to praise the district's solid farming convention. Grain cultivating and cows farming are broad in the encompassing zones.
European-Canadians initially settled the territory around Russell around 1880. The primary mail station started tasks at a site north of the present group in 1880, and was called "Shell River". The nearest CPR Canadian Pacific Railway point was renamed to Russell in 1889.
