Moosburg

Moosburg is a market metropolis in the Klagenfurt-Land district in the Austrian kingdom of Carinthia. It is positioned in the Klagenfurt Basin on the B 95 Turracher Straße federal highway, northwest of the kingdom capital. In the south, Moosburg borders the municipalities of Pörtschach and Krumpendorf, both popular bathing resorts at the northern shore of Lake Wörth. The nearby Süd Autobahn may be reached via the Portschach and Krumpendorf junctions.

The Old High German call moos refers to several swamps and ponds around the settlement, remnants of the ultimate glacial period and today a protected region. The municipal location comprises the cadastral groups of Barndorf, Gradenegg, Kreggab, Moosburg, Sankt Peter, Seigbichl, Tigring, and Tuderschitz. The region had at the least been settled in view that Roman times, while it become a part of the Noricum province; documented via preserved sections of Roman roads and tombstones, in addition to by way of excavations of an historical villa rustica close to the village of Tigring.
