About Cairns
Cairns is a city in the Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. It is on the east coast of Far North Queensland.
The city is the 5th-most-populous in Queensland and ranks 14th overall in Australia.Cairns was founded in 1876 and named after William Wellington Cairns, Governor of Queensland from 1875 to 1877.
This was put to serve mineworkers heading for the Hodgkinson River goldfield, however declined when a less demanding course was found from Port Douglas and it was later formed into a railhead and the significant port for sending out sugar stick, gold and different metals, minerals and rural items from encompassing seaside territories and the Atherton Tableland district.
