Edam Volendam

Edam Volendam is a municipality inside the northeast of the Waterland place inside the Dutch province of North Holland on Markermeer. 36,094 people live there of which around 21,000 in Volendam and around 7,000 in Edam. The municipality has an area of ​​8098 ha. The original name of the municipality become Edam. In 1974 the town council decided on a name alternate.

In 1975 this was accredited with the aid of the Crown. In 2012, an official request became submitted via the municipality of Zeevang to the neighboring municipality for a merger, which become approved by way of the then municipality of Edam-Volendam in May 2013. In October 2013, the 2 municipalities commenced a process for a merger. This merger became a reality on January 1, 2016. Since its established order, the municipalities of Edam Volendam and Zeevang had been a part of the plus location City Region Amsterdam. Edam Volendam also continued to be part of this after the merger.
