Antiguo Morelos

Antiguo Morelos is one of the 43 municipalities that constitute the Mexican country of Tamaulipas. It is positioned within the southern center of the kingdom and approximately 81 kilometers south of Ciudad Victoria. It has a territorial extension of 714.20 km². According to the II Population and Housing Count of 2005, the municipality has 9,902 inhabitants, of which 4,184 are guys and 4,377 are ladies. This municipality became based with the name of Baltazar on May 6, 1821, inside the vicinity where because the year 1751 the congregation of the equal call have been mounted.

On September 27, 1828, it followed the name of Villa Morelos, in honor of Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon. In 1859, Mayor Jesus Izaguirre requested the state government to alternate the place of the capital, due to the lack of water. In 1860 the trade is permitted and the powers are transferred to the congregation of Mesillas, which from that second on could be known as Villa de Nuevo Morelos. In 1862, because of troubles among the populations of the 2 cities, the municipality become divided into. It became from that second that the municipalities of Antiguo and Nuevo Morelos emerged.
