Chalakudy

Chalakudy is a civil town arranged on the banks of Chalakudy River in Thrissur District of the Kerala State in India. It is the base camp of Chalakudy taluk. It is the base camp for voyagers to Athirappilly and Vazhachal Falls. Chalakudy lies on National Highway 544 and situated around 47 km 23 mi north of the city of Kochi, and 30 km 19 mi south of Thrissur. The name "Chalakudy" is gotten from two words "Yagashala" impermanent settlement for directing penances and "kody" hail.

When Chalakudy was acclaimed all over India as a place for leading penances. Many "rishis" counting Saptarshis used to come here as it was considered as a sacrosanct land. With a specific end goal to distinguish these settlements, they raised banners by it. In this way those whole zones got its name "yagashalakody". Chalakudy is a prime goal of visitors, particularly the individuals who love nature.

The best season to visit Chalakudy is December to March and furthermore in rainstorm season.
