Day 1 : Travel overland from Bangkok to southern Khao Laem lake and embark on the Lake Explorer
In and around Bangkok Meet at the New Road Guest House in Bangkok at 07:30am and depart at 08:00am. As you leave metropolitan Bangkok behind, you'll admire the change in scenery to a more pristine and remote Thailand. We'll stop near Sai Yok Noi waterfall and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. We'll continue our journey into the mountains and travel through lush forests until we arrive at the lake that sits near the Thai-Myanmar border. Depending on traffic, expect to arrive at the southern shores of Khao Laem lake around 02:30pm and embark on the Lake Explorer. Breathe in the fresh air, take in the surrounding scene and investigate your floating home for the days ahead. From the anchorage on the southern shore of Khao Laem lake, we'll head north and view the impressive cliffs that give way to beautiful, small islands and inlets as we approach today's final destination. Kick back and enjoy the first of many sunsets as darkness falls. We'll anchor the Lake Explorer and overnight near Coconut Island.
Depart from the floatel at 10. 30 am by long tail boat and head to the hilltribe village Mooban Kanunklee inhabited by Karen people called Po, Plo and Loa Song . By tractor you will be taken to explore the Karen agricultural fields which are mostly for rice growing and animal husbandry. The Karen people like to stay together as a small community, so you will be seeing houses that were built right next to each other. You will be experiencing the lifestyle of this hilltribe including how they produce their own electricity and how they create their own water supply system for the village. After exploring the hilltribe village, you will be visiting Baan Kanunklee Primary School, the only school in the village. There are only 2 teachers for the 80 students in this whole school and you will be allowed to participate in classroom activities. If you wish, you may choose to support the school and students by making a donation and we recommend donating school stationary, student stationary, books, snacks, etc. From approximately 12. 00 – 12. 30 pm you will head back to the floatel and have fun cooking your own local lunch. You’ll have help of course, with a menu that you and your guide will discuss and a cooking class led by the floater's cook. After lunch, the afternoon is free for you to enjoy at your leisure. Have fun swimming, kayaking, or even spend all the time reading your favorite book with a cup of tea or coffee. At 18. 30 pm your delicious dinner will be served, so enjoy your meal and the beautiful sunset. After dinner, just digest & relax!
Day 3 : A morning excursion to Bee Island and then off to Pilog
We'll wake early with the dawn to see the birds playing in the nearby trees. We'll have breakfast and then jump into kayaks to explore the area or have a refreshing swim. When we're done, we'll sail to Pilog and, if you're curious, you can learn how the fantastic food you've been enjoying onbaord is prepared. Our local kitchen staff will show you how they prepare Som Tam, the delicious and ubiquitous papaya salad with grilled chicken. Before arriving at Pilog, we'll drop by Bo Ong village, where you'll notice the landscape change once again. This remote village houses a unique experience with a friendly island vibe. We'll visit the local pagoda built on a steep cliff and surrounded by a giant lotus pond. This sacred pagoda is accessible by a walking bridge, but only men are allowed to pass and climb to the top. But fear not, the pagoda is beautiful from a distance and you'll sense an otherwordliness from the spirit houses mingled with the sounds of laughing children at play. In the afternoon, the Lake Explorer will head south along the western shore as the lake narrows and we approach beautiful Pilog. The cliffs around us will rise and, if you look to the west, you'll see the mountains on the Burmese side of the border. Here, the forest becomes more wild and flights of wild herons will take wing and fly overhead as they head towards the forest. We'll kayak and visit a floating temple and floating shops of the nearby village. If you don't feel likey kayaking today, our small long-tail boat can take you there in comfort. We'll head back to relax after a busy day and breathe in the fresh air and once again admire the stunning sunset while we enjoy dinner. Then admire the thousands of stars overhead as you drift into a deep .
Day 4 : Enjoy your last day on the Lake Explorer as we slowly make our way back to the pier
We'll wake up in a little bay close to the village of Pilog. After breakfast, we'll enjoy kayaking or swimming and then set sail back to the southernmost shores of the lake and the pier. On the way, we'll have lunch at a local restaurant and enjoy our last views of Kanchanaburi province's scenery. After lunch, we'll drive back to Bangkok and expect to arrive around 06:00pm at New Road Guest House. On the way, we'll take a break so you can buy snacks for the next part of your journey.
