Villanueva

Villanueva is a town in the territory of Zacatecas, Mexico. It is the authoritative seat of the district of Villanueva. Villanueva was established on February 4, 1692 under the name Villagutierre del Aguila. In the same way as other towns in Mexico, the name of the benefactor holy person of the town was added to the name and it progressed toward becoming Villa de San Judas Tadeo de Villa Gutierre del Aguila. In any case, since it was the last town established around there of Zacatecas, it was called Villa Nueva new town, and that is the name that stuck.

The region was initially called Santa Cruz when it was established in 1650. Its name was changed two or multiple times until 1962, when it was formally renamed as the Municipality of Villanueva, its name until the present. Its seal is one of the most established in Zacatecas, going back as ahead of schedule as the mid 19^th century.
