Kastellaun

Kastellaun is a metropolis within the Rhein Hunsruck Kreis in Rhineland Palatinate, Germany. It is the seat of the like-named Verbandsgemeinde, a type of collective municipality. Kestilun changed into first cited in writing in 1226. Castle became constructed by the Counts of Sponheim and belonged till 1417 to the County of Sponheim. In 1301, the citadel and the metropolis have become home to Simon II, Count of Sponheim Kreuznach and his wife Elisabeth.

In 1437, the Counts of Sponheim died out, and the inheritance fell with the Amt of Kastellaun to the Lords of Palatinate Zweibrucken and Baden, who dominated it at the same time.
