About Whitefish Point Light

Remains on the slippery southern shoreline of Lake Superior known as the "Memorial park of the Great Lakes" in a territory with a larger number of wrecks than some other zone of the lake. All vessels entering and leaving Lake Superior must pass the light.
Development on the principal light started in 1847, and the beacon was said to take after that at Old Presque Isle Light.First lit in 1849, it was one of the primary beacons on the shores of Lake Superior. It is the most seasoned dynamic light on the lake, remaining at the purpose of land that denotes the course change for vessels originating from the southern shoreline of Lake Superior, known as the "Burial ground of the Great Lakes", to the Soo Locks. All vessels entering or leaving Lake Superior should past Whitefish Point.
