Swope Park

At 1,805-sections of land, Swope Park is the crown gem of the KC Parks framework. As Kansas City's biggest stop, and one of the biggest urban stops in the United States, Swope Park is home to a significant number of Kansas City's finest attractions and yearly pulls in excess of 2 million visitors.Thomas Hunton Swope was conceived in Kentucky in 1827. In the wake of living in a few states, he moved to St. Louis where he worked in land. He came to Kansas City in 1857 subsequent to buying some property here and later turned into the biggest individual land proprietor in Kansas City. Mr. Swope was called "Colonel" Swope, yet the title was privileged and not from military administration. In 1896, Colonel Swope gave 1,334 sections of land to the City of Kansas City, Mo. for use as an open stop. With property acquisitions made throughout the years, the recreation center now has 1,805 sections of land.
