Lacledes Landing Wax Museum

The wax gallery's gathering of more than 200 figures takes up 5 stories of a dim stockroom building. The best floors are devoted to big names, open figures, and scenes from the "Life of Christ," with differing degrees of progress. Not all things are marked, but rather setting signs help: George Washington Carver, for example, holds a peanut.

Things truly get in the storm cellar, where the proprietor has introduced a legitimate Chamber of Horrors, helped by the old building's squeaking floors and winding lobbies. It's dull, in both environment and substance. As pre-recorded shouts reverberate through the space, guests are welcomed by torment animatronics, brushes dribbling innards, and all way of grisly, dismantled bodies. Satan and Hitler are down here as well.
