At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is Great Smoky Mountains National Park's most noteworthy point. It is the most elevated point in Tennessee, and the second most noteworthy point east of the Mississippi. Just North Carolina's Mt. Mitchell 6,684 feet rises higher. Clingmans Dome is a well known Park goal. Situated along the state-line edge, it is half in North Carolina and half in Tennessee. The pinnacle is open in the wake of driving Clingmans Dome Road from Newfound Gap, and after that strolling a precarious half-mile trail. A cleared trail prompts a 54-foot perception tower. The Appalachian Trail crosses Clingmans Dome, denoting the most elevated point along its 2,144 mile travel. Vistas from Clingmans Dome are staggering.
