1. The Lunatic Poveglia Island
Being located in the lagoons of Venice, Poveglia Island might not turn out to be what you are expecting. Instead of being a place of beauty, this place is a smoldering bruise scintillating sea. No fishermen steers near to the island for the fear of catching human bones in the nets. The island was used to set apart the plague victims from the population. It later became the site for a lunatic asylum. Poveglia Island has not only earned the name of the most evil place on the planet but also one of the most haunted one. This place is banned for anyone to visit.
2. Ilha de Queimada Grande- The Snake Island
While other places are populated with humans, there exists an island which is home to 4,000 of the world’s deadliest snakes, the Golden Lancehead Viper. This is what waits you if you are planning to travel to Ilha de Queimada Grande, situated 32 kilometers off the coast of Sao Paolo, Brazil. Scared? Wait for this! These snakes can pluck birds flying over and kill them with a kind of venom which can even melt human flesh! This place has been banned for visit by the Brazilian Government, except for some scientists who are granted permission to study snakes on the island.
3. North Sentinel Island- The Home of Last Isolated Tribe
Are you among those who believe that there are no primitives left in this world of rapid urbanization? You might be mistaken! Sentinel Tribe, inhabiting the tiny island of North Sentinel in the Andaman group of Island, are a living proof of primitives. This tribe has lived in isolation since long, rejecting any type of communication with the outside world. The attempts have been quite violent, leading the government to ban people from going there.
4. The Forbidden Phulbani, Odisha
Almost 200 kilometers away from capital of the Indian state of Odisha, Phulbani is a town located amongst spectacular waterfalls and majestic landscapes. Its surreal beauty has been affected by the Maoists activities, leading this place to fall in the red corridor of India. So if you are planning to go on Bharat Darshan, strike it off!
5. Les Catacombes, Paris- Land of the Dead
Paris is not all about romantic dates, beautiful landscapes and the stunning Eiffel Tower. It is also about the hidden land of the dead. Yes you read it right! Les Catacombes are a chain of windingly long tunnels under the fast paced city of Paris. These tunnels are packed with millions of cleanly stacked human bones, taken out from the cemeteries during the 18th century.
You will be allowed to creep through some tunnels after buying a ticket but visiting other tunnels is illegal.
