Gulmarg literally means meadow of flowers. It is a majestic hill station in the district of Baramula of Jammu and Kashmir in India. The hill station, at an altitude of 2730 m, was earlier known as Gaurimarg, where Gauri stands for Goddess Parvati the wife of Lord Shiva. The name Gulmarg was given to this place by the King Yousuf Shah Chak.
Nestled with stunning peaks in the Himalayan ranges, Gulmarg is a spectacular picnic spot attracted by all kinds of tourists with its lush green backdrop, beautiful landscapes, flowering gardens, serene lakes and pleasant climate during the summers and falls.
This imposing hill station was a pleasure resort for kings and royal family members and a summer retreat for the British officers during the British rule in India. Sir Marc Aural Stein, the renowned central Asian explorer made this place as his halting location between the expeditions during early 20th century. History claims that Mughal emperor Jehangir was a frequent visitor to this pleasant environment.
Gulmarg is an eye catching place with picturesque surroundings, beautiful gardens with mind blogging flowers and fragrance. 3. Rishikesh
Rishikesh, the 'place of the sages' is a celebrated spiritual town located on the banks of the Ganga, surrounded by Shivalik range of the Himalayas on three sides. It is believed that when Raibhya Rishi undertook rigorous penance, God appeared in the form of "Hrishikesh" and this area henceforth came to be known as Rishikesh. It is the starting point for the Hindu Char Dham pilgrimage, including Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, to seek spiritual salvation.
Rishikesh is an ideal destination not only for pilgrims but also for those who want to delve deeper into meditation, yoga and other aspects of ancient practices.
Rishikesh is also called the "Yoga capital of the world". For the adventurous, Rishikesh is the place for starting their trekking expeditions and excursions towards the Himalayan peaks.
The International Yoga week, which attracts participation from all across the world, is held here every year from February 2 to 7 on the banks of river Ganga.
4. Lahaul-Spiti
Located in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, this spectacular valley houses some of the ancient monasteries and natural wonders.
Earlier there were two separate districts of Lahaul and Spiti. But, presently, Keylong in Lahaul is the administrative head quarter. One can come to this place from Manali hiring some private vehicles.
Lahaul is noticeable for the consistently high mountains and gigantic glaciers. Lahaul is a land of splendid Buddhist art and culture. The monasteries of Lahaul-Spiti contain wonderful ancient murals, thankas, classic paintings, wood carving, and golden images of Padmasambhava.
The cool and pleasant weather of this valley turns it into an ideal destination to arrange your trip during summer. Monsoon in Lahaul is not so heavy but turns the valley into more wonderfully decorated vicinity with green grass and alpine flowers. For trekkers and climbers summer is an ideal season to enjoy a long and unbroken move in soothing sunshine to experience the wilderness and scenic beauty of the inner Himalaya.
The geographical character of Lahaul and Spiti valleys are quite different. Spiti is more barren in comparison to Lahaul. It is like a common mountain desert type area. It has an average annual rainfall of only 170 mm.

The valley is often considered as the Orchard of Ladakh, originally known as Ldumra which means the valley of flowers.
