The money went to a private women’s liberal arts college situated in New York City.
2. Signia Wealth: Estimated $2,500
They needed an aspiring wealth-manager (presumably wealthy) for their London office
It was a two week job which included meeting financiers who made donations to cancer research.
The CharityBuzz bid rested at $750.
3. The British Conservative Party: $5,600
The British Tories, in 2011, offered internships with City hedge funds $5,600 per person, especially to party supporters.
Auction was just weeks after the Cameron government launched its Equality Strategy.
The auctioned items had a two-week internship at CMC Markets for about $5000 donation, and a weeklong internship at Arbuthnot Latham private bank.
4. Rolling Stone and Us Weekly Magazine: Estimated $10,000
2 weeks of editorial experience at Us weekly was auctioned in 2012.
An estimated $5,000 contribution was to be made to the David Lynch Foundation.
Rolling Stone also auctioned a one month gig at the same value that year, but the donations went to Kristen Ann Carr Fund for cancer research.
A double-internship, two weeks at both magazines, was offered later at $10,000 donation to a Tibetan solidarity charity the same year.
Rolling Stone since auctioned off another position in 2013, and again this past April for $5,000.
5. Oscar de la Renta, Balenciaga, M Missoni and Valentino: Estimated $10,000
In 2012, all the four top fashion companies offered one month summer internship.
The proceedings went to education charity Rosie’s Theater Kids.
Balenciaga has held a similar auction every year since.
6. Huffington Post: $13,000 +
In 2009 the Huffington Post offered aspirants to buy a two or three month internship in their Washington and New York offices.
At least $13,000 worth bids were made before closing.
Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights benefitted from the proceedings.
7. UN-NGO Committee on Human Rights: $22,000
A six week internship in New York at the United Nations was offered at $22,000.
According to CharityBuzz, the internship wasn’t actually with the UN, but at the UN in New York City.
However, the auction was removed from CharityBuzz’s archives later.
8. The Weinstein Company: $26,000 +
A 3-month internship in New York City or Los Angeles has bids over $26,000 in the final 10 minutes.
Proceedings went to Harvard’s professional art theater, the A.R.T. Institute.
9. Vogue: $42,500
In 2010, bidding for a week long internship in Vogue’s offices started at $1,000; it reached $42,500.
Proceedings went to the RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights.
10. DefJam Records and Virgin Group: $85,000
A 6 week internship to work between the offices of DefJam Records and the Virgin Group topped the list with $85,000.
It was the 39th most expensive item in CharityBuzz’s larger inventory history.
