UP and Uttarakhand governments have decided to promote tourism in the state, and for this, a metro rail link is proposed. The decision on this will be soon that will link Delhi and Dehradun and reduce the travel time to half. As per Rakesh Sharma, Chief Principal Secretary, this metro project will best link three tourism cities - Haridwar, Dehradun and Rishikesh.
In order to implement this metro project, deep consultation of Uttar Pradesh government is required and final decisions of the route and plans will be framed thereafter. This project is also aiming to provide an eco friendly mode of transport and a solution for traffic congestion solution. This project is aiming to have golden triangle connectivity within Rishikesh, Dehradun and Haridwar.
The theme of this project is based on the Smart City project where the passage will be both underground and overhead to avoid any traffic congestion. Different corridors would be developed to provide best road connectivity for both side and will facilitate best and smoother transport. Its theme will also be based on the United Kingdom rail connectivity policy and keep due consideration of traffic in particular locations.
