For safeguarding the various eco sensitive tourism locations, National Green Tribunal (NGT) has taken best decision to prevent various activities at various locations. With this decision, no activities like snow scooters and paragliding would be permitted in Himachal Pradesh at Rohtang Pass. Rohtang is among the extremely eco sensitive area that need to be safeguarded from further degradation. The decision is taken in a meeting that was headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar. The decision is also taken to permit some activities at the lower level so that they can be observed.
In the meeting, the decision is taken to allow activities like providing local dresses and photography to visitors and no other activities will be permitted. Further only 800 petrol vehicles will be allowed daily to go to Rohtang. Along with this, the vehicles that meet the standard emission norms would be permitted to enter Rohtang. For implementing the decision, bench of 6 advocates is appointed who will act as local commissioner for paying emphasis on noticing the impact of these decisions on the waste management, environment and ecology, level of pollution and blackening of snow in Rohtang. Thus, travelers need to consider this before planning trip to Rohtang.
