1. Maharashtra Tourism to Attract More Tourist to Elephanta Caves
With the great opportunity of tourism in Elephanta Island, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has come up with new plans to promote the tourism in this place. The ambitions plan of MTDC includes overnight stay, building new Jetty, having water sports, building a restaurant and shopping area, constructing cable car to ferry tourists, upgrading railways connectivity that promotes tourism by providing best connectivity from jetty to hillock. The tourism department has also planned to provide opportunities to local artisans for displaying their products. As per Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister (CM), Government of Maharashtra, the reason for less tourists in Elephanta Island is lack of stay facilities.
Therefore, overnight stay at this place will definitely boost the tourism in the region. Further, heli-tourism will also be promoted to provide easy access to tourist at this place. For the development of new Jetty in the Island, the government finalizes investment of Rs. 93 crores. Hence, emphasis is to promote this UNESCO World Heritage Site and gain attention of international tourist by providing all the suitable facilities to visitors. Government is concerned about the safety of tourists, as this Island is located near to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.
