As pre recent report, India’s first bullet train project which to travel between Ahmedabad and Mumbai will now run on an elevated corridor. The change in plan will cost an additional cost of around INR 10,000 crore; which is Indian government wants to afford considering the benefits. The decision was taken by Arvind Panagariya – Head of the empowered committee of secretaries, VC, NITI Aayog on the bullet train project earlier this week. The high-powered meeting was attended by secretaries of Department of Economic Affairs, the foreign secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, state governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra, and NITI Aayog.

However, the biggest obstacle that has hit the project so far - Maharashtra’s refusal to give land for Mumbai station at the Bandra-Kurla Complex, was not get decided through this meeting. Sources said, it was decided to escalate the matter to the PMO as a last-ditch attempt to save the existing plans.
