The Indian Government is planning for a proposal to relax visa policy to better promote trade in services. Replying to opposition party’s question Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated, “A proposal to liberalize the current Indian visa policy is under consideration in Ministry of Home Affairs with all stakeholders. Services sector is a prominent sector in India in terms of its contribution to national and state income. This crucial sector contributes 35% to exports, 20% to import 28% to job creation, and nearly 25% total trade.
Continuing further Minister Sitharaman added a liberalized visa regime will help greatly in promotion of trade in services in different modes of national supply, particularly for tourism, education services and medical value travel which include in Mode 2 supply.
