1. Thought leadership Meet to Promote MICE Tourism
In order to promote MICE tourism in India, a ‘Thought leadership Meet’ meeting was conducted to discuss various issues related to its promotion. The meeting was held in Delhi between ASSOCHAM and India Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB). Speaking on the issue, Suman Billa, Joint Secretary – Tourism, Government of India, and Chairman, ICPB said that responsibilities has to be taken to promote India as the suitable MICE destination. For this, he said that city and state-level convention bureaus have to be created that would bring strength to bids for global convention and exhibition events. He said this would be the best possible way to increase India portion in the MICE pie. For this, ICPB will play vital role by showing great level of engagement.
Currently India has only 1% of global business events, thus, efforts are required to boost it by 20% in the years to come. He also said that single window clearance is required and online facilities to submit documents, for this dedicated desk is required at MEA to provide permissions related to international events. Further, Dipak Haksar Chairman – Tourism Committee, ASSOCHAM said that MICE tourism is natural extension of leisure tourism that strengthens various economic activities in country.
