About Valkenswaard
Valkenswaard is a municipality and a metropolis in the southern Netherlands, within the Metropoolregio Eindhoven of the province of North Brabant. The municipality had a population of 30,615 in 2017 and spans a place of fifty six.49 km2 of which 1.Forty eight km2 is water. The name Valkenswaard stems from its history of falconers, who caught wild falcons there; valk is Dutch for "falcon". It lay on a direction wherein falcons migrated south each 12 months. In the seventeenth, 18th, and 19th centuries, Valkenswaardian falconers had been lively at many European courts, in which falconing changed into a loved activity.
Valkenswaard's falcon-catching area has now been built over and falcons are now not stuck there. In the nineteenth and 20th century, some of huge cigar factories have been based in Valkenswaard, the 2 most renowned of which being Willem II and Hofnar. A Second World War cemetery containing 220 British squaddies changed into created near Valkenswaard in October 1944. It is now maintained by means of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
