About Pontecagnano
Pontecagnano is a city and comune of the province of Salerno within the Campania location of south west Italy. The area dates again to Roman times while the metropolis of Picentia stood inside the area and became destroyed via the Romans after the Second Punic War. The vicinity of Pontecagnano became settled as early as the Copper Age 3500 to 2300 BC, as testified through the archaeological excavations of sanctuaries and necropolises. In the 9th to 8th centuries BC remains belonging to the Villanovan Culture, predecessor to the Etruscans, had been observed.
The Etruscan center became possibly called Amina and dated to the 6th century BC. At the peak of its strength it ruled all the land from Salerno to the Sele River. It turned into known for a temple of the Argive Juno reputedly built by means of Jason. Here, in 268 BC, the Romans built a brand new city, Picentia, to residence a nucleus of deported Piceni. The city of Pontecagnano is the municipal seat and the maximum populated agreement of the comune. It is situated close to the city location of Salerno and few kilometers by the coast.
