About Conselice
Conselice is a town of 9,772 inhabitants in the province of Ravenna. The municipality consists of three inhabited centers: Conselice which alone has about 5,000 inhabitants, Lavezzola and San Patrizio. Archaeological research carried out in the years 1992 to 1995 in the municipal area brought to light large quantities of shells and other materials from the lagoon, including an oyster, which was dated 2.635 years ago with radiocarbon. Through the analysis of all the findings found it was possible to conclude that, in ancient times, the Conselice site was located on the edge of a vast wet area, part of the Padusa Valley.
The name Caput Silicis appears in the parchments written in Latin preserved in the municipal archive. There is no evidence that the toponym was handed down directly from antiquity. The only sure thing is that, in the network of Roman centuriation, the Conselice site was in line with Forum Cornelii today's Imola. Historians believe that a road perpendicular to the Via Emilia ie a kardo left from Forum Cornelii to reach the site.
