About Ultima Contemporary Music Festival

It seems like the whole city of Oslo plays a role during the Ultima Contemporary Music Festival. It certainly puts the capital’s cultural and public venues to good use. For 10 days, a range of indoor and outdoor spaces in the city from schools to museums, churches, libraries, concert halls, clubs, shops, and the town hall will host a ton of exciting concerts, talks, seminars and conferences on this year’s theme ‘Traditions under Pressure’.

 

The premier contemporary music festival in the Nordic region, this major festival is run by no less than 17 cultural institutions and organisations in Oslo. Its aim is to promote artistic distinctiveness, trends and innovation while making it accessible to everyone. Ultima’s extensive programme combines concerts and events by homegrown Norwegian talent with performers from the rest of the world and many of the events are free. With it is royal patron Prince Haakon, the festival is a major player on Oslo’s annual event calendar.
