The Open Golf Championship or more colloquially, The Open is a golf tournament of repute and honor. The championship takes places every year in different nations like USA, England and Scotland and Ireland. The birth place of this tournament is the Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland back in the year 1860. Though it had a humble beginning, now this championship has grown in stature and prize money. Golfers like Tiger Woods have participated here and walked away with the trophy in past. From 300 in 1950, the prize money has touched a staggering 750 000 last year.
The significance of The Open Golf Championship 2011 has been almost doubled as it returns to the mecca of golfing, St Andrews. Hailed by many as the Home of Golf, this golfing paradise is home to 10 gorgeous golf courses with 18 holes each excluding one course that has nine. The lush green landscape with high lands capped by trees and the occasional ancient monuments provide a perfect stage for the sophisticated golfers to put forward their skills and style.
