Norwegian Fruit And Salmon Festival
About Norwegian Fruit And Salmon Festival
If you’re looking for a taste of traditional Norwegian food in a spectacular setting, then head to the picturesque town of Hjelmelandsvågen for the Norwegian Fruit and Salmon Festival. Located on the shores of Jøsenfjorden in rugged western Norway, it’s a mecca for foodies of all ages. The festival highlights the farming heritage of the region, and features a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. The mountains of the western fjords abound in berries, and the festival is your chance to sample the best of the summer harvest.
There are, of course, plenty of fish dishes available as well, plus lots of fresh fish for sale. Traditional Norwegian baked goods such as lefse are also on sale, along with the staple of any Norwegian festival: freshly grilled hot dogs. The Fruit and Salmon Festival is a great family event. Kids can do face painting, trampolining, cooking classes and visiting barnyard animals, among other activities. For thrill-seekers, there are helicopter tours where you can take in magnificent fjord views from the air. Hjelmelandsvagen is best reached by car. There’s ample parking at the town sports complex, from where a free shuttle bus will take you to the festival downtown.
