Music Seminar with Efren Lopez
About Music Seminar with Efren Lopez
The "Pyrinas" Artist Collective and the Embassy of Spain in Cyprus present the author and multi-instrumentalist Efren Lopez to lead the music workshop: Composing, orchestrating and ad libbing in modular musics of the east. The objective of this workshop is the experimentation inside the field of the purported "Modular music", which uses tune as an expressive medium and bases its structure on certain unmistakable and characterized scales, standards and style of movement and ornamentation.
Thus, we break down pieces having a place with a few customs which utilize those modular frameworks: Greek, Turkish, Iranian, Arabic, Azeri, Indian and Afghan music, both in their melodic and rhythmical perspectives. Withdrawing from the investigation of the majority of this material we can make our own structures, courses of action and act of spontaneities, utilizing specific interims, odd meter rhythms and different components not ongoing in the conventions of Western Europe.
The essential components that we will take a shot at are the accompanying:
- Introduction to Turkish Makam, firmly identified with the Arabic Maqam, the Persian Dastgah and the Byzantine Echos, dissecting essential and increasingly complex modes.
- Introduction to the Indian rhythmical term "Tala".
- Introduction to the "Raga" modular framework as utilized essentially in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
