Mohani
About Mohani
Mohani is one of the most important festivals among Newars, which includes a packed program of religious services, pilgrimages, family gatherings and outdoor festivals for several days. Special dinners are called Nakhtiya. For whom all relatives are invited, continue after week.
Mohani is equal to Dasain, the biggest festival of Nepal, and there are similarities and differences between the two. This festival has been described as a festival of Hindu Goddess Durga, which is destroying demon Mahishasur, the demon Chunda and the Indian emperor Ashoka, especially for bloody fighting and for sacrificing weapons in hatred after becoming a Buddhist.
Mohani is celebrated according to the lunar calendar, hence the dates can change. The main festival lasts four days from 8th to 11th days of the bright half of the Kaulla in the twelfth month in the moon calendar calendar. On the first day of fortnight begins with applying barley seeds with Mohini Nalaswane. Seeds are planted in sands in soil valleys and small bowls. It is done at the house of someone in the temple and in the arrival chain where the family of the family of the house is established.
