About Independence Day

 

Independence Day is annually celebrated on 15 August, as a country wide excursion in India commemorating the state's independence from the United Kingdom on 15 August 1947, the United Kingdom Parliament handed the Indian Independence Act 1947 transferring legislative sovereignty to the Indian Constituent Assembly. India still retained King George VI as head of country until its transition to complete republican charter. India attained independence following the Independence Movement mentioned for in large part non-violent resistance and civil disobedience led through the Indian National Congress.

 

Independence coincided with the partition of India, in which the British India changed into divided alongside religious strains into the Dominions of India and Pakistan; the partition become observed via violent riots and mass casualties, and the displacement of almost 15 million people due to non secular violence.
