From The Shores Of Fife To The Allegheny With The Bowhill Players
About From The Shores Of Fife To The Allegheny With The Bowhill Players
FROM THE SHORES OF FIFE TO THE ALLEGHENY WITH THE BOWHILL PLAYERS large scale emigration from Scotland to America began in the 1700s and continued until the 20th century. Displaced and impoverished Scots went in search of a better life. At the age of 13, in 1848, Andrew Carnegie left Dunfermline to immigrate to the United States with his family. They settled in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, and Carnegie went to work in a factory, earning $1.20 a week. Their experience was shared by tens of thousands of others. As part of a series of events to mark 'Carnegie 100',
The Bowhill Players, famed for their acclaimed interpretation of the songs and poetry of Joe Corrie and Fife's vibrant mining culture, present a lively evening of traditional folk music bluegrass and Americana exploring Fife's connection with the Great American Dream. Musically Worlds apart I hear they say but after a chance meeting in the studios of Livingstone Brown in Godalming UK Surrey, this unlikely duo hit it off. The early musical influences for both of them were directly from soul & gospel music.
