About Dol Purnima

Dol Purnima is the last festival of Bengali calender and celebrated from the ancient times. This puja is held in the period of March. Early in the morning, on the Dol Purnima day understudies spruce up in saffron-hued garments and wear laurels of fragrant blossoms. They sing and move to the backup of melodic instruments displaying a charming perspective to the spectators and a memory to love for a considerable length of time.

The celebration is also called 'Dol Jatra', 'Dol Purnima' or the 'Swing Festival'. The celebration is commended in a noble way by putting the icons of Krishna and Radha on a beautifully finished palanquin which is then taken round the fundamental bouleds of the city. The fans alternate to swing them while ladies move around the swing and sing reverential tunes. All through the parade men continue showering hued water and shading powder, 'abeer' at them.
