About Chitou Amavasya
The celebration is praised on the new moon day of the lunar month of Shravana. On this day, an extraordinary sort of rice cake named as 'Chitau Pitha' is offered to Lord Jagannath at the sanctuary. This cake is arranged and eaten with savor nearly in each family unit. The god on this day bears a brilliant stamp called 'Chita' on the temple. In rustic zones, Chitou Amavasya is praised as a farming celebration.
On this favorable event, the ranchers revere the paddy-fields. After a purificatory shower toward the beginning of the day, they go to their separate paddy-fields with cake, blooms, drain and so forth and petition God for the fields to yield a decent harvest. Prior the Chitou Amavasya was praised to pacify malicious forces of creatures, serpents, bugs or plants through love.
