About Avantin Suvisoitto

Avant's Summer Play offers unique and open minded concert experiences from different ages to listeners of all ages. The Avant is accompanied by soloists and conductors from the top of the world.

 

Chamber Orchestra Avanti! was founded in 1983 and after 3 years it was time to set up its own summer festival. The idea for a music event in a small town came from Naantali, and the name came from the composition of Usko Meriläinen for flute and grasshoppers. Professor Ilkka Oramo and his enthusiastic conductors Esa-Pekka Salonen and Jukka-Pekka Saraste organized the first Suvisoito in 1986 in Porvoo. The training camp in Haikko Manor lasted four days and concerts were held in Porvoo for 3 days. Since then, accommodation, training and hedging have been concentrated in Sannas Manor. The city of Porvoo added the arrival of musicians to their long cultural heritage: The city of Rivers, hills, two languages, two medieval markets, narrow streets, old houses, international commerce, Runeberg, European art, books, reality and symbols, and now Avanti! A friend.
