Noted for its grandeur and long tradition, the Aranmula Uthrittathi boat race is considered as a ritual than a race that takes location at the Uthrittathi asterism inside the Malayalam month of Chingam, at some stage in the Onam festival. Legend has it that a devout Brahmin vowed to provide all of the requirements for the thiruvona sadya the grand traditional ceremonial dinner on the day of Thiruvonam on the Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple. Once, the boat called Thiruvona Thoni sporting those offerings became attacked by way of enemies. In order to shield the Thiruvona Thoni people from neighbouring areas sent their snake boats. Later on, this exercise evolved into an imparting to Lord Parthasarathy in the shape of a snake boat race, hung on the Uthrittathi day which eventually became popular because the Aranmula Boat Race. This is one of the satisfactory town.
