Check in to your accommodation and check out Tel Aviv! Day one will let you take it easy as you recover from your flight. Your accommodation is a short way away from Ben Gurion Airport, and you will have the afternoon free to check into your room, ask our tour staff any questions about your itinerary, and enjoy the rest of the day settling in or meeting fellow travelers! You can either get a free city map and immediately make your way to the beach; join our weekly festive Shabbat Dinner, featuring local foods in the spirit of Shabbat (subject to availability); or simply relax and explore Tel Aviv, the Nonstop City. Start the day with a full breakfast and complimentary coffee, as you prepare to get on your bikes for a Tel Aviv Bike Tour. Being a pretty flat city, travelling by bike is common in Tel Aviv, and this tour will give you a great view both of many of the top tourist spots, and also give you an insight into daily life in this Mediterranean city. Your guide will take you to the European-looking wide streets of Rothschild Boulevard; the extensive green Yarkon Park; Tel Avivs centre of Arts and Culture - Habima Square; Rabin Square, the location of Yitzhak Rabins assassination; the Tel Aviv Promenade on the beach, and a bunch more. Fully guided, you will get a full explanation of the history and culture of this modern city and you will be able to ask your guide for tips, insights, or restaurant recommendations so that you can return later in the evening on your own. Day three is a day of meeting cultures and learning about different fascinating parts of Israeli society that you probably knew nothing about! After leaving Tel Aviv after a hearty breakfast, a bus will take you to Kibbutz Ma’agan Michael, a thriving example of one of the last Kibbutzim (communal village) in Israel, and one of the richest ones. You will meet a local kibbutz member who will explain how successful co-housing works, tour life in a communal village and have lunch with them in the local communal dining area. After a quick breakfast you bid goodbye toTel Aviv, and head over to Caesarea. Caesarea was built as a port city by Herod the Great at around 25 BCE, and many of the ruins still stand. You can tour the very large excavations in what is now a national park, and see for yourself ruins of what used to be extensive roads, buildings, large theater, hippodrome and ancient port. A short video, included in the park entrance fee, will give you a great overview of a complicated history of the many different peoples who have conquered Caesarea - Crusaders, Romans, Ottomans, and more. In the afternoon you will head up to Nazareth, the city of Jesus childhood and the city in which Mary was told she would give birth to the Son of God. After checking into Fauzi Azar Inn, you have the afternoon to do independent touring. The friendly staff will be happy to point you in the direction of the nearby Synagogue Church, Marys Well and the Basilica of the Annunciation. Today you travel even further north, to the green hills of the Galilee and the Golan Heights. It is here that the Sea of Galilee, the location of Jesus walking on water, is located. Your tour today will take you around and to the Sea of Galilee, as we visit many Christian sites, several beautiful lookout views, and even a winery. After breakfast in Nazareth, you head to Capernaum, a place of historical significance for millions of Christians throughout the world. From there its a short drive to Mount of Beatitudes, the location of Jesuss famous Sermon on the Mount. You stop for a short and relaxing hike in the green Banias Nature Reserve before going to a Druze village for lunch. The afternoon takes you to a local winery, as you learn about the budding Israeli wine industry. Final stops will take you to Mount Bental, a dormant volcano which provides gorgeous views as far as Syria, and finally, time and weather allowing, we stop at a beach on the Sea of Galilee. That evening you participate in a cooking workshop and learn how to make Maqluba, a tasty regional specialty of chicken, rice, and local spices. Get up early on your last day in Nazareth to head over for a 2-day excursion to Jordan! The first day of your Jordan adventure takes you to Jerash, ruins of an incredibly well-preserved Roman city, and Amman, modern day capital. Your entire time in Jordan is guided, and your guide will take you around the ruins, drive the streets of Amman, and take you for lunch at an authentic local restaurant. Evening takes you to a Bedouin camp for dinner and sleeping. These desert-dwellers have been nomadic tribes for hundreds of years, and they are very well known for their generous hospitality. Today is spent in Petra, Jordan. This stunning site used to be completely unknown to the Western world, and today is Jordans primary tourist attraction. A city built by the ancient Nabatean people, Petra is entirely built from unique rose-coloured rocks, lending it the name The Rose City. Your guide will happily take you through many of the ruins, including the Visitor Centre, the Siq, Treasury and the Amphitheater, explaining along the way. After time to explore this extensive site on your own, we stop for lunch before making our way over the border and onward towards Jerusalem. Jerusalem, the holy city to Christians, Jews, and Muslims around the world, is at the focus of todays tour. After a light breakfast, a staff member will accompany you on the short walk to Jaffa gate, one of the famous gateway entrances into the Jerusalems Old City. A knowledgeable local guide will take you on a walking tour of the four quarters of the Old City, as you visit important sites to all three major religions, among them the Dome of the Rock, the Western Wall, Stations of the Cross on the Via Dolorosa and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.* In the evening you will be centrally located to see and experience Shabbat in Jerusalem. Observe how the public transportation, stores and most restaurants shut down, as the city prepares to relax for the duration of Shabbat. That night you can either get recommendations from the hostel staff about the few places that do stay open, or choose to buckle down and join an on-location festive Shabbat Dinner (subject to availability). Day 9 takes you to the West Bank, and, all in the space of one day, brings you to the three centres of the West Bank - Ramallah, Bethlehem and Jericho! In this speedy day trip, you will visit the lesser known (and less crowded) baptism site of Qasr el-Yahud, visit the ruins of the ancient biblical city of Jericho where Joshua brought the walls down, see the modern centre of Ramallah, and visit the holy sites of Christianity in Bethlehem, town of Jesuss birth. Todays tour features the famous Church of Nativity and the graffiti wall of Bethlehem, featuring work by the world-famous graffiti artist Banksy. Day 10 is spent in the politically charged city of Hebron, one of the four holy cities in Judaism and also sacred in Islam. Todays tour is indeed political and will deal with tough subjects, but do so in a unique way - half the day is spent with an Israeli guide touring the Jewish half of the city, and half with a Palestinian guide in the Muslim half. Each guide will explain their own perspectives, leaving you free to form your own opinion after having gained a small insight into the political quagmire of the Middle East. Todays day is a restful day touring the lowest spot on earth - the Dead Sea. Today will take you to several of Israels must see spots, and leave your skin a lot happier that you did. We first drive you to Masada, giving you time to explore the fortress and archaeological ruins at the top. A short drive from there takes you to Ein Gedi, nature reserve, with time to relax in this desert oasis and enjoy swimming in these freshwater springs, before reaching the saltiness of the Dead Sea. Finally, the Dead Sea, lowest point on earth, where not a single living creature can survive in the high salt-content waters. These mineral rich waters and mud are supremely good for the skin, and you will have time to float in the water and spread mud on your skin before heading back to Jerusalem in the evening. Your last day on the package, you have time to eat a full breakfast in the morning before checking out of your accommodation. If you are still touring you can take advantage of the on-location luggage room and enjoy your last day in Jerualem, and if you are heading back home, simply ask the friendly staff to arrange transport to the airport for you.
