Day wise Itinerary

ARRIVE NEW JALPAIGURI / BAGDOGRA - PHUENTSHOLING APPROX 170 KMS / 6 HOURS DRIVE Here's to an exciting start to the 'Getaway Goddess - Bhutan' tour! Our Bhutan adventure begins on your arrival at Bagdogra airport or the railway station at New Jalpaiguri. You will be welcomed by one of our tour hosts who will guide you to your chauffeur-driven vehicle for the scenic drive to Phuentsholing. About 170 kms away, the journey to this border town in southern Bhutan is expected to take 6 hours. After reaching Phuentsholing, we are given a traditional welcome on check-in at our hotel. With a fair bit of travel done during the day already, we spend the rest of the evening at leisure in this beautiful town. If time permits and you are so inclined, visit the Palden Tashi Chholing Shedra, a Buddhist college sanctified in 2014, bedecked with fine mural paintings in the assembly hall. PHUENTSHOLING - THIMPHU 171 KMS /APPROX 06 HOURS DRIVE Refreshed after a good night's , we refuel with a hearty breakfast and then proceed to Thimphu. On the 6-hour drive, we visit Kharbandi Gompa to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of adjoining areas including Phuentsholing and the Indian plains. Along the way, we make a few stops to admire and soak in some of the country's vast natural beauty and scenic locations cradled by the mighty Himalayas. Before reaching Thimphu, we reach a maximum altitude of 2, 800 m, and soon check in to your hotel. In the evening, we savour the opportunity to watch a traditional Bhutanese cultural performance, tuck into some local delights and then retire for the night. Overnight in Thimphu B , D

Day 3 : Thimpu

Having covered some long distances on previous days, this day of the tour affords us some time to truly immerse ourselves in the local traditions and culture. Some of the attractions we will visit in and around Thimphu includes the venerated National Memorial Chorten that is thronged by devotees and Motithang, Mini Zoo where we will be able to catch a glimpse of takin - the national animal of Bhutan. We will also visit Tashichodzong, a stunning medieval monastery and fortress that houses the King's throne room and a majority of the government offices. Other sites of interest we will stop by are the National Library and Folk Heritage Museum. With the sightseeing done, we enjoy a charming home visit to a local Bhutanese home where we learn how to make authentic Bhutanese food and partake of a delightful meal. After lunch and a bit of rest, we set out for a bit of shopping at Norzim Lam Street to admire traditional art and craft. We also visit Gagyel Lhundrup Weaving Centre, Nado Poizokhang Incense Showroom and Philatelic Bureau. THIMPU - PUNAKHA 86 KMS / APPROX. 3 HOURS DRIVE We wake up to a gorgeous morning in Thimphu and ready ourselves for the journey to Punakha that takes us through Dochu La Pass at a height of approximately 3, 080 m. From here, we delight in the stunning views that include the Chorten, Mani Wall, and the fluttering prayer flags that adorn the highest point on the road. If we are lucky and the skies are clear, we may witness many a jaw-dropping sight with well-known Himalayan peaks in full view. These include Masagang 7, 158m, Tshendagang 6, 960m, Terigang 7, 060m, Jejegangphugang 7, 158m, Kangphugang 7, 170m, and Zongphugang 7, 060m. After lunch, we visit Punakha Dzong located near two rivers - Mo Chu female river and Pho Chu male river. Known to be one of the largest dzongs or fortresses/palaces in Bhutan, we access it by crossing a suspension bridge. Initially called Dechen Phodrang Palace of Great Happiness or Druk Pungthang, Punakha Dzong was the seat of the Bhutanese government for several years. PUNAKHA - PARO 143 KMS / APPROX. 04 HOURS 30 MINUTES Today, we drive to Paro and check in to your hotel. After a short rest and lunch, we set out to explore some of the town's highlights such as Kyichu Lhakhang, Drugyel Dzong, Paro Dzong and To-Dzong. Built in the 7th century by Tibetan king, Songsten Gampo, Kyichu Lhakhang is among the oldest temples in the country. It is believed to be one of the 108 temples built to subdue a demoness residing in the Himalayas. Drugyel Dzong built in the 17th century is a fortified dzong built to commemorated the Bhutanese victory over the Mongolian and Tibetan armies, which attempted several invasions into the country. Damaged by a fire in 1951, the fortress still stands tall as imposing and impressive structure showcasing distinct design and architecture. Overlooking the Paro valley, the Paro Dzong sits high up on the mountains as one of the finest examples of Bhutanese architecture. Housing both the government and monastic body offices, it is symbolic as the secular and religious hub in the area. Having immersed ourselves in the country's rich heritage and history, we return to the hotel to pamper ourselves with a Himalayan head and neck massage. Overnight in Paro B , D

Day 6 : Paro

We have an action-packed day today with an excursion to the renowned Taktshang or Tiger's Nest Monastery. The monastery sits perched on a rocky ledge with a sheer drop of nearly 30, 000 feet. It is said that in the second half of the 8th century, Guru Padmasambhava alighted here upon the back of a flying tigress. We will have a picnic lunch at the Taktsang cafeteria, and then hike back to Paro. The round trip takes about 5-6 hours. . Later, enjoy shopping at the local market. Once back at the hotel, you can spend your time fishing or cycling or even try your hand at archery, which is Bhutan's national sport Overnight in Paro B , D

PARO - PHUENTSHOLING 170 KMS / APPROX. 6 HOURS DRIVE With the lion's share of our journey now complete and limbs weary from the previous day's adventures, we begin to trace our way back to Phuentsholing by road. After a scenic 6-hour drive, we check in to the hotel. Later, head out for a bit of kayaking. In the evening, we let our hair down at a DJ-inspired blowout giving us a fitting end to the tour. We bid a fond farewell to this enthralling country having made countless memories along the way. From Phuentsholing, we now go back to our respective drop-off points at New Jalpaiguri railway station or Bagdogra airport and reminisce the good times as we make our way home. B
