Arrive at Calicut airport / Railway station, The Travel Planners representative will meet and thereafter drive to Wayanad. An amazing journey through the Ghat pass road and you could stop at Lakkidi view point and enjoy the beautiful view of the serpentine roads through the hills. Next, on the way you can stop few minutes at the Chain Tree which is along the side of the national high way. On arrival check in at your hotel. Afternoon visit Pookode Lake (Boating - Optional) and Banasura Sagar Dam - the largest earth dam in India and the second largest of its kind in Asia. Overnight stay at Hotel. During the rule of the Zamorin – the hereditary Hindu monarchs who were in power before the British rule – Calicut was the capital of Malabar. It was the central trading hub for a great number of spices like black pepper and cardamom for Jews, Arabs, Phoenicians and Chinese for a great number of years. Kozhikode as it is known among locals, is famous for having received Vasco da Gama who discovered the gateway to God’s Own Country by landing just a little over 10 kms from the city in the distant beach of Kappad. Calicut is home to a number of historical, natural and cultural attractions that usually fly below a tourist’s radar thanks to the irresistible charm of places like Wayanad, Alleppey, Thekkady and Munnar. For the art aficionados, the Art Museum in Kozhikode houses a number of rare portraits by Raja Ravi Varma that fused Indian art forms and European methods like oil on canvas. The Kozhippara Falls offer travellers that weather the challenging trek to the top a view to remember for eternity. Foodie? We got you. The Mithai Theruvu (Meaning Sweet Street) in Kozhikode is a paradise for those with a sweet tooth. An endless stretch of tiny shops selling unique delectable that are both cheap and delicious! If you intend to pass by Calicut during the Malayalam New Year (in the month of April), you cannot afford to miss the festivities at the Tali Temple in Calicut. Even if you’re travelling during the other months of the year, their 5 unique religious ceremonies performed on the Shiva idol is truly an otherworldly sight. Interesting fact: The city’s name – Calicut – is the origin of the English word “calico”. Calicut is well connected via extensive roadways and railways making it a good starting point for travellers planning to extend their Coorg trip or for those looking to start their Wayanad trip. During your trip from Calicut to Wayanad, distance becomes irrelevant and the sights keep surprising you at every turn.
