Head off for an early morning aboard your klotok and cruise upriver in search of the local wildlife. Your first stop is known as Feeding Platform Two – a 10-minute walk through the jungle from the river. Here, your accompanying rangers will leave some fruit for orangutans to collect; however, sightings in this part of the jungle are never guaranteed, especially when there is plenty of other fruit growing in the jungle. Continue along the river, enjoying lunch on your way, and head upstream to the renowned Camp Leakey – possibly the most famous place for orangutan research in the world. At Leakey, visit the education center to learn a little bit more about the region, and keep an eye out for agile gibbons and wild pigs, as well as spotting the primates at the feeding center. Afterwards, cruise down the river in search of orangutans socializing along the riverbank. There may be the chance of a night walk in the early evening once you’ve tied up the klotoks – these, in fact, will be your sleeping quarters for tonight.
