Reportedly, the first of these cities were inhabited by the Hittites (ancient Anatolian people) which dates back to 3000 years ago. The origin of this phenomena is still not clear and established as some believe it was the result of some glacier effect, a Roman catacomb or any other archaeological find. The cities were built in various levels and they are linked with stairs at places and in some parts, you will find the ancient ways of climbing up or down with the holes in a rock tube. It is highly advisable to follow the instructions of the guide when you tread into this caves.
