Originally called by the name Royal Victoria Institute, the museum was set up in the year 1892. Housed in a Dutch styled building, the museum boasts of a strong collection of nearly 10,000 articles, arts and artifacts. The national museum is divided into seven galleries according to their displays. You can see in these galleries national art collection, Trinidad's Carnival arts, petroleum and geological exhibits and much more. There is also an audio-visual room which imparts educational programmes. The museum is open on all days except Monday. On Sundays, the museum is open from 2 PM to 6 PM. On all other open days, it allows visitors from 12 noon to 6 PM.
