Situated on the northern side of River Tsangpo, Samye monastery holds a special position among monasteries of Tibet as it was the first monastery in Tibet with the three Buddhist idols of Lord Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. The monastery was built in the year 779 under the patronage of Tibet king Trisong Detsen in the most unique style. The Wuzi Hall inside the monastery is the exact representation of the Universe as mentioned in the Sutras. The hall is divided into three different layers which got it the name 'Three Styled Temple'. The lowest layer is in Tibetan style, middle layer in Han Style and the topmost in Indian style. The monastery attracts most number of pilgrims on January 5th and May16th as on these days embroidery of Sakyamuni is displayed.
