Norbulingka Palace: Lhasa

Situated in the capital city of Lhasa, Norbulingka Palace is called the Summer Palace as it was the venue chosen by Dalai Lamas after 7th Lama, for holding religious ceremonies and government meetings during summers. The palace stands at place which was once a garden. The construction of the palace was started in the year 1740 on the order of Qing Magistrate. The beautiful garden which surrounds the main palace has many other palaces which were built by ruling Dalai Lamas. All the palaces are known for their architectural exquisiteness but the most beautiful of all is Tyoksil Potrang which was built by 8th Dalai Lama. Norbulingka Palace has become a popular picnic destination among locales for the theater performances, and music and dance festivals that are organized here.
