Jokhang Temple: Lhasa

It is the most revered monastery by pilgrims and also the most adored by tourists. Among the oldest destinations for pilgrimage in Tibet, it was built in the year 647 A.D. The temple was originally built to house the Sakyamuni statues that were brought as wedding gifts by Princess Wen Cheng of Tang Dynasty. Situated in the center of Lhasa, it is easily accessible from all parts of the city. The best spot to view the entire beauty of the temple at one go is the square of the temple. From here you will get an all round view of this huge and charming temple. The main complex of Jokhang Temple houses the statue of Sakyamuni, probably the most revered statue in Tibet and the famous symbol of Dharma wheel between the two deers. For its immense beauty, it was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
