There is every possibility that you would be looked down upon either as someone with some dis-balanced mental equation or as one having a queer taste in unusual things if you share your views to visit Chernobyl of Ukraine! Everybody would raise their brows quoting the horrifying nuclear disaster of 1986 that demolished the city and left an indelible scar on it. But things are about to take some turns, and some real serious positive turns for that matter.
The people who had those raised brows and terrified looks might also find them landing at Chernobyl by 2011. All thanks goes to the Ministries of Emergency of Ukraine and Poland that have decided to include Chernobyl into the official tour programme of Euro-2012 in Ukraine. Consequently, the exclusion zone of Chernobyl nuclear power plant will be opened for tourists starting from January 2011, as stated by the Minister of Emergency situations of Ukraine, Viktor Baloha.
This comes as a very bold and decisive initiative from the authorities to transform Chernobyl from a tragedy site to a potential tourist attraction. Till date, Chernobyl receives a meager amount of visitors who are taken for a guided tour in the exclusion area for a day tour during the summer time. But, the real objective of this development is to clear the myths and wrong conceptions about Chernobyl. Because, as a matter of fact, there is hardly anything to be scared of as the radiation level that a visitor receives during a trip here is nearly equal to the one that he/she gets when boarding an aircraft! Quite ironically, it is even lesser than the radiation effect of an X-ray examination!
So, its time to clear all doubts and suspicions and take the traveling concepts one notch higher...
