Yes, the first image or thing that comes to mind when we hear or see the word- 'Meteora' is the Linkin Park album featuring some amazing numbers that actually redefined the concept of Rap Rock. But, this is not all! With no offense to the band, the another famous and incredibly beautiful phenomena under the same name is situated in Greece- the Meteora Monasteries.

The sheer sight of the Meteora monasteries suffices the fact that it is simply awe inspiring! At the same time, they do justice to a land that has the legacy of a romance with history, glory and mythology. Located on the rocky cliffs of the historic Thessaly region, the Meteora monasteries are a set of six stunning Eastern Orthodox monasteries that dates back to the 14th and 15th centuries. You can easily have a trip to the Meteora monasteries from the nearest town Kalambaka that has got accommodation facilities for the tourists.

Your imagination and soul will go for a toss once you be in these six marvel in person. The view from the top of the cliffs are beyond human description and you will truly feel getting a step closer to the divine; to the sublime. The word Meteora means- 'suspended in the air'; and after a glance of it, you have to assert, nothing can be more literal than this!

Of all the six monasteries, The Great Meteoron walks away with all the superlatives- highest, largest and oldest. Established in the 14th century, Great Meteoron is a real spectacle with numerous tourist attractions with its Byzantine architecture and imposing figure.

Another significant name in the Meteora shrines is that of the Varlaam Monastery, also known as Barlaam Monastery. Like the Great Meteoron, this is also a finest example of Byzantine architecture and Athonite style with domes and choirs.

Known for its spectacular setting, Murals and Frescoes; Agios Nikolaos Anapaphsas is a early 14th century creation that is dedicated to St. Nicholas. You will love th views atop the valleys and cliffs.

The other three monasteries are called- Agia Triada, Agios Stefanos Monastery and Rousannou Monastery. All these majestic shrines are waiting to be explored and celebrated to the bottom of the soul. Its time to head towards Greece...
