The Rickshaw Run is about to cover 3500 kilometers across India for Charity

The rickshaw run is finally going to hit the scene again. This unparalleled adventure show is about to come with its twenty third edition this April. This sport has gained huge popularity since its beginning in the year 2006. The rickshaw run has grown immensely in number and has become one of the largest events on earth, with three wheelers.

This event is held in Jaisalmer where brave teams, across the world participate on the drive for lifetime. The race takes place for thirteen days which covers a distance from Jaisalmer to Shillong, Meghalaya. Along the whole journey the only thing that stays with the traveler is the humble auto rickshaw. The race happens between the teams which consist of three members. All of them paint their vehicles in unique designs. They cover a distance of three thousand and five hundred kilometers with their auto rickshaw. The most interesting part of this race is that every team raises one thousand pounds for charity of which a half goes to the rainforest preservation charity, cool earth.

The majesty of Jaisalmer will see of the participants before they set off on the 4th of April. The challenging part of this race is yet to be mentioned. The teams will have no definite route throughout the journey. They will have no back up and no support. All they will have is their rickshaw and themselves for travelling India. They will just have the appointment with their teams at the finish line which is in Shillong. They have to face all the hurdles and hindrances by themselves and by hook or crook they have to make it to the finish line by 16th of April.

The event manager Mathew Dickens who had been at the Rickshaw Run helm for over 6 years states it rightly that the event has its lighter side too. There is a strong message that this event delivers to the society. The participants of this event get the chance to experience real Indian beauty. Unlike the typical holiday packages, this event provides less help to the participants. Lesser the support, participants will get, more they will learn to rely on themselves and friends. Moreover the heart-warming generosity of Indian people helps the participants to cope up with their loss in the event. This event also introduce to the participants the lesser seen sides of Jaisalmer and Shillong which hide much vibrant beauty. The most interesting part of this event is that it raises huge funds which are transferred to the worthy charities across the nation. The Rickshaw Run has raised over two million pounds, till now and has given support to the Cool Earth society to save 150,000 trees in most endangered rainforest on earth.

The Adventures of 5 Men Who Rode Across India on Mopeds In 1982

This is the story of 5 young men and their cross-country journey across India in 1982 on their Luna Mopeds which were an upgrade of bicycles with a 50cc engine and an option to pedal too. This describes the three month cross country escapade of 5 young men 34 years ago, who called themselves Lunatix (matching with the mopeds name) and shared the love for the Asterix comics. 34 years on, they have all drifted to different parts of the globe, and yet they remember vividly the adventure of those three months as if it were just yesterday. Difficult terrain, injuries and brake fails were only some of the difficulties these crazy adventure lovers faced while travelling. Today it makes them all smile with reminiscence, thinking about those bygone fun and crazy days. As they share their stories with us, each is filled with nostalgia. Around India in 90 days on Luna TFR plus Their story was published in newspapers and media with headings like “around India in 90 days on Luna TFR plus”etc. These five unique young men were: Anil Sirur (Sancho), Michael Gandhi (Mike), Arnab Bannerjee (Banny), Nataraj Iyer (Nutty) and Partha Chaudhari also called Willy. Starting from 30th may 1982 these five friends covered most of the states of India and a little bit of Nepal too by 30th August 1982.
