We have heard a lot about sculpting but how about Sand Sculpting which is said to be one of the most difficult arts to master. Well some of the underlying reasons of difficulty are the availability of right place, apt quality of sand and lest we forget the problem of rainstorm which shatters the total theme of the masterpiece. Last but not the least creating sand sculptures involves the utilization of different molds. As molds once used need to be recreated. And once these hurdles are crossed the final product is par excellence.
People must be thinking that these must be made out of sea sand but wonders of wonder these are exclusively made out of river sand. This is because river sand consists of finer granules and is most suited one for making sculptures. Some of these masterpieces are :
Neptune’s Sandcastle, Virginia Beach
The Neptune’s Sandcastle is considered to be one of the largest sandcastles in the world. It was sculpted to be brought to life for the Virginia Beach festival in the year 2006. This sculpture is 37 feet tall and ducked the previous world record of 32.5 feet. This sand artefact was made out of 3,000,000lbs of fine sand. It truly looks life like.
Rapunzel’s Castle, Fraser Valley
As kids everybody must have heard the fairy tale of Rapunzel’s Castle. Still let us brief you a bit about the tale. Rapunzel's castle was famed for keeping the princess captivated by an old witch till she was rescued by her Prince charming. Apart from the will this structure to be crafted in sand needed the fairy tale gesture imbibed into it. And so it was fulfilled. This stunning castle was created in the Fraser valley of Canada.
Boracay Island, Philippines
Boracay island in the Phillipines draws millions of tourists from world wide. Well, apart from the azure blue waters, pristine white sand beaches it is a haven for those who come here for tracking those bewildering sand sculptures on the shoreline. This is one of the center places for the sand sculpting world.
Sandsation, Berlin
One would be boggled thinking what is this Sandsation afterall? But then let us throw some light on this story. Credit goes to Martin Tulinius who went on to create this wonderful small piece of sand paradise called Sandsation in Berlin Germany.
Castle to the Sun, Casco
This castle is dedicated to the Sun God. 1,000,000lbs of sand was put to use to construct the Sun sculpture. At 31.5 feet tall under the leadership of Ed Jarett and kids as community volunteers, this colossal sand structure breadth itself to life. The main purpose of the sandcastle was to raise funds for the children suffering from life threatening diseases.
Truly, unlike our childhood attempts of creating sandcastle glory these sand sculptures withstand the gory attitude of nature's erosion before disappearing altogether.
