Reason why the tail of plane does not hit runway very often

The tail of the plane does not hit the ground and only in rare case, this happens. Here you will find various reasons that prevent the tail of the plane to hit the runway. The reasons are the advanced technology, plane design, pilot’s expertise, adequate equipments within the cockpit that provide clear understanding to pilots to judge the speed and takeoff angle that is safe. However, with some disadvantages, new technique was developed to provide complete safety to the planes from tail hit on runway. Now every plane is equipped with gyro horizon indicator that is now treated as the primary flight display to judge crucial information regarding speed, angle and altitude of the plane to pilots. Thus, with this equipment, pilots easily control these elements and plane does not have issue of tail strike.

Along with this new equipment, most of the planes are provided with tail strike sensor that alerts crew and pilot in any circumstances when the tail gets too closer to the runway. Further in planes that require high angle to takeoff are fitted with small tail. Thus, all these plane specifications, pilot training and equipment are the reason why the tail of plane does not hit the runway very often. Further, in case of an accident, tails of planes are now designed in special way so that they can bear the force of this incident and cause no damage to plane and passengers.
